What is Available in the Funding for Part-time and Self-employed workers (Including 1099 & Gig Workers)?
The CARES Act has expanded unemployment benefits to include part-time and self-employed workers, including contractors and gig workers. However, you can't apply YET!
According to the Savannah Business Journal on April 5, 2020 ~ although these benefits are available, self-employed workers, gig workers and 1099 independent contractors cannot apply at this time, but instructions for applying are pending USDOL approval, and should be available by April 10th.
You do NOT qualify for unemployment benefits if you are able to work from home with pay or are getting paid leave while out of work.
