Georgia appears to be ahead of many states in the process of starting to get self-employed workers enrolled in the Federal unemployment program. As we posted on April 14th, if a self-employed person applies for traditional unemployment insurance with the Georgia Dept. of Labor and is declined for those benefits, they will automatically be enrolled in the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program.
According to this morning's article from Fox 5 News, starting on Wednesday, April 22nd, the Georgia Dept. of Labor will send an email telling self-employed individuals that while they have not been approved for State unemployment benefits, they may qualify for Federal PUA benefits. A link to begin the Federal application process is included in the message.
Many states have not created this Federal application link yet.
